Epub 2017 Feb 1. [Electrophysiological testing in spinal cord tumors]. Neurofibroma is a tumor originating from the nerve sheath anywhere in the body [1]. Although chest wall shwannoma and neurofibromas originating from intercostal nerves have been reported rarely, schwannoma-neurofibroma hybrid tumor has not been reported. Nerve system rooted tumors are seen equally in women and men [2]. We report a case of intramedullary schwannoma without symptoms suggestive of neurofibromatosis.

However, in large tumors, sacrifice of the nerve root is often required to achieve total removal of the tumor, and the resection does not always result in postoperative neurologica …. Cervical spinal schwannoma is benign, and outcomes after surgical resection are generally excellent. A surgical dilemma sometimes arises as to whether to perform total tumor removal, which carries a risk of sacrificing the nerve root, or subtotal removal, where the risk can be tumor recurrence. Summary. Schwannomas are nerve sheath tumors, or tumors that originate from the layer of insulation that surrounds nerve fibers.
